Valentine’s Day & Wedding Registry
Feb 15, 2009 Holidays, The Engagment, The Wedding
So, yesterday was February 14th, Valentine’s Day, and I went up to Columbus to send the day with Nicole. With 7 months to go until our wedding we thought that it wouldn’t hurt to start doing a Wedding Registry (seriously, how does going through a store
and picking out stuff you want not sound fun?) and in the morning we stopped at Target to set up a registry there. We got there at about 10:30AM and walked through the store for about 2 hours and found we scanned a grand total of 31 items…not even enough for half the number of invitations we are going to send out. Yeah, 31 items seems kinda weak so some questions for ya:
- What things did you (or would you) put on your registry?
- Looking back at your wedding (if you are married) what would you have put on your registry in hindsight?
- What other places could we register? It seems kinda silly to register at another Target-ish store, doubling up seems kinda silly, let me know if I am wrong.
After that we went over to the movie theater and saw not one but two movies! First choice was mine and we went to see Coraline, I enjoyed it but Nicole not so much, good spooky animated flick. Second choice was Nicole’s and we watched Confessions of a Shopaholic. Now, confession time, I generally enjoy chick flicks, yeah I generally enjoy them. This one though I just couldn’t get into but Nicole enjoyed it so it was all good.

If I were getting married,I could include china (people can either buy a place setting or all of the plates/bowls/cups/etc.), silver (choose your pattern, same concept as above), kitchen appliances, towels, bedding, home decor (picture frames, posters, wall sconces), general home accessories (candlesticks, bookshelves), a vaccuum, cameras, phones for the house, and apparently Target has a weddign cake gift card that somebody would buy to pay for the wedding cake…
Think about it. This is y’all’s time to go through a fun place like Target and scan every random item you’ve ever thought about getting for your house. The idea is to give people lots of things to choose from.
Not married, though, so no hindsight.
Oh, ask for a crystal punch bowl and ladel. You’ll appreciate it later.
You could register at Macy’s, Kohl’s, and even Tiffany & Co. for the REALLY good stuff. Tiffany has some awesome silver and crystal items.

I came to your website because you left a message on my husband’s blog, Letters to Liam.
One note about Target,. when my husband and I got married about 1 year ago, we registered at Target and had an issue with returns (without a receipt). They would not take much back even if it was on the registry. They took back I think 2 items a year from a person and only if it was less than about $20. We also registered at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I know things are a little more expensive there, but with the coupons they always send, the prices are not too bad. Bed, Bath, and Beyond would accept returns from registry items (without a receipt) for cash and items not on the registry for store credit.
We also had troubles filling the registry – we put on things that would eventually wear out – sheets, towels, etc. I liked the food processor – I never had one of those before. A nice set of dishes (but we are not the china or silver sort), serving platters, and serving pieces were good things to get.

(And I’m married to that last poster!)
I’ll add: Target wouldn’t take it even *with* a receipt after 60 days, IIRC.
I’m from the South, where it’s rude to give money. Miss Manners agrees. Since we paid for the wedding ourselves — we don’t. Paying the bills is cool!

Thank you all for the comments! Nicole and I registered at Kohl’s last weekend…a post on that is in the works.
Pam,
While at Kohl’s we found a very nice punch bowl and registered for it…thanks for the tip!
M & Will,
Sheesh, that does not make me feel very good about Target…ahh well, we shall see what happens.
